Things to Do in Northern Ireland with Kids During Half Term

Half term is coming, and if you’re looking for ways to keep the kids active and entertained without travelling too far, Northern Ireland has plenty to offer. But if there’s one destination that should be at the top of your list, it’s Mountpanther Farm Park.

Set just outside Newcastle, Co Down, Mountpanther is a firm family favourite and one of the best things to do in Northern Ireland with kids

If your little ones love animals and space to run wild, you’ll struggle to top Mountpanther. It’s got everything you need for a full day of fun: animals, adventure zones, open space, and a warm, welcoming team.

Mountpanther Farm Park – At the Heart of Your Half Term Plans

Mountpanther Farm Park is where memories are made. It offers an experience that’s hands-on, exciting, and totally kid-friendly. The farm is packed with friendly animals, from goats and donkeys to llamas and alpacas. Children can feed, pet, and learn about them in a safe environment.

For those with a bit more energy to burn, the park has multiple outdoor play areas, pedal go-karts, a climbing frame, a bouncy pillow, and more. There are also sandpits and mini diggers for imaginative play.

It’s more than a farm. It’s a full day out, and it easily ranks among the top Newcastle Co Down activities. Rain or shine, there are covered areas and indoor spaces so the fun can keep going.

Planning tip: Weekends and holidays can be busy, so it’s smart to book in advance.

Why Families Love Mountpanther

What sets Mountpanther apart isn’t just the activities, it’s the atmosphere. Families feel relaxed here. Kids can explore safely, and the layout of the park makes it easy for parents to keep an eye on them.

There’s also a café on site serving coffee, snacks, and hot food. Toilets and baby-changing facilities are clean and accessible. Everything here suits families perfectly.

If you’re on the hunt for things to do in Northern Ireland this weekend, it’s worth the drive to Newcastle.

Location, Location: Close to Everything

One of the bonuses of Mountpanther Farm Park is its location. You’re just minutes from the seaside town of Newcastle, the Mourne Mountains, and a host of other local attractions.

So, if the kids still have energy after a few hours at the farm, you can head into town for an ice cream on the promenade or stretch your legs at nearby Tollymore Forest Park.

It makes for a perfect, flexible day trip, combining one of the top things to do in Newcastle Co Down with the beauty of the local area.

What to Bring

  • Weather-appropriate clothes
  • Wipes and hand sanitiser (for after animal petting)
  • Water bottles
  • A change of clothes for the little ones (just in case)
  • Comfortable shoes for all the climbing and running around

There’s seating throughout the park for snack stops or taking a break.

Seasonal Events and Extras

Mountpanther truly comes alive during the school holidays, and this Easter is no exception. From Saturday 19th to Sunday 27th April, the farm will host its much-loved Easter Event, packed with themed activities that go far beyond your average day out.

Families can look forward to a farm-wide Easter scavenger hunt, a visit from the Easter Bunny (appearing daily from 19th to 22nd April), and creative arts and crafts sessions. There’ll also be face painting available from 19th to 21st April, and sweet treats from Captain Churro to keep everyone energised.

Our animal encounters are a huge hit at Easter. This time of year is perfect for meeting our new arrivals – from lambs and chicks to pygmy goats and alpacas. Don’t miss Wallaby Way and Pygmy Paradise.

And for something extra special, you can book a spot on our Deer Safari – a 30-minute ride to meet our herd of Red Deer, complete with fascinating facts and the chance to hold a real antler.

This is exactly the kind of hands-on experience that makes Mountpanther one of the best things to do in Northern Ireland with kids during half term.

We recommend booking online in advance to avoid disappointment. You’ll find all the details here: mountpanther-com.stackstaging.com/easter

Great visit the fact you could go in amongst the animals is credit to the farm staff and shows the animals are well treated and looked after, wallaby being my all time favourite animal was absolutely amazing… my wife, daughter and her friend had an amazing time, and the fella who looked after on the tractor ride to the deer was a wealth of knowledge, telling us about the old house etc and how Donald trump tried to buy the place… we will difo be back

Grandchildren as ourselves thoroughly enjoyed whole day. Finally got to experience the tour down to the deer and helped feed them. Last year we went during rutting season. The young lad who gave the talk was exceptionally well versed in the life of the deer. I would highly recommend Mount Panther Farm for anyone to visit.

This is our second year in a row to visit Mountpanther Park and it never disappoints. Such a great family day out, all the staff are so friendly and informative about all the animals. I have to say this year I was very impressed with a lovely lady called Becky she was such a friendly person and told us all about the animals and nothing was too much trouble. She took out the guinea pigs after seeing my son had a teddy of 1. Both my sons love getting into see the goats as do I, it is such a fantastic place for family day out. Highly recommend and we can't wait to visit again.

Great space for kids- animals to feed Great price for the activities the kids could do- we spent about 3.5--4 hours here. You can bring your own picnic or there is somewhere I think you can buy food - we didn't so not sure what is available. Staff all very engaging with children and very helpful and polite, didn't wait for my boys to go to them, they came to us to ask them if they wanted to pet animals or talk to them
