Groups & Breeds

Macaws will mate for life. Once birds have found their mate they will stick with them for the rest of their life. They will share food, groom each other and always fly closely together. In captivity, the owner is often seen as the mate by the bird. As a result they will become attached to the owner and can even get jealous. Breeding season is usually in spring and early summer, although some pairs will breed almost year round. Clutch size is usually two to four eggs but sometimes more. Incubation period ranges from 23 to 27 days. Some additional high fat seeds, like sunflower seed, should be added to the diet during the breeding season to stimulate reproduction.
